9 + 15 = 24
- Write the numbers one under the other so the units line up.
- Add the units column first: that gives 14. Write the 4 underneath and carry the 1 into the next column.
- Move left one column at a time, adding anything you carried.

- A missing number is found by doing the opposite operation.
- The opposite of adding is subtracting, so take 10 away from 11.
- Check it by putting your answer back into the original sum.
